This means that if you saveas a transparent PNG and then hit ctrl+s at some point, the new saved image will be black where it was previously transparent. When you try to save after previously saving as, mypaint sees ".png" in the filename, and decides to save the image as a PNG without the alpha channel (that is, any transparency information), resulting in a black background. So it seems like there are actually two separate issues here. If I understand correctly, when you see "PNG (transparent)", you think "save without the background", yes? When I see "PNG (transparent)", I think "write down transparency information in the png for the image I see on the screen". Okay, I think I have a better idea of what's going on here. png, and a correctly transparent saveas'd image when the filename is given without extension (e.g. Saving something twice (as a transparent PNG) and then 'save as'-ing it as a transparent PNG results in a _non_transparent saveas'd image (transparent areas are black) when the filename is given with the extension. It appears that all the transparent pixels were turned black.Ĭuriously enough, saving something twice (as a transparent PNG) and then exporting a transparent PNG results in a correctly transparent exported image. I modified the third image, tried saving it immediately afterwards and got Seems like saving with transparency works the first time you try to save (by any means). Files were saved by typing in the filename with no extension and selecting "PNG transparent (*.png)" in the dropdown. The first three images were done with 'Show background' unchecked in the layers panel and in a fresh instance with a fresh config.
